What we’re doing in lockdown

Now we’ve been in lockdown for just over two months, we’re slowly running out of things to do. We moved back home from university in the middle of March, but we still had assignments and exams to do, so that kept us busy for a short while. It’s been nice to spend time at home when we didn’t think we’d ever get this long at home again but it does have it’s downsides. Like everyone else, we miss our friends, especially when we’re all in different parts of the country, nights out, going for food and generally just sitting in the flat.

We were used to going to the gym a few times a week at uni so we started doing Chloe Ting workouts and we both did the 5k challenge that was going around on Instagram. Exercising definitely has an impact on our mental health and it always makes us feel more productive. We both found that doing exercise in the morning set us up for a productive day, especially when we had uni work to do, whereas now it is the only consistently structured part of our day. It makes you feel like you’ve got your life somewhat in order during lockdown.

Keeping in contact has been really important for us, especially because we’re used to living with our best friends and spending 24/7 together. Our group chat is more active than ever and you could even say it’s brought us all closer together. We’ve done the typical getting drunk over FaceTime and the Zoom quizzes, and we’ve even celebrated birthdays and the end of first year, which obviously wasn’t how we planned to celebrate. Like most people, Tiktok takes up most of our screen time, especially at the start of lockdown and there’s always a Tiktok being sent in the group chat, or if you’re like our flatmate Emmie, you’re spending your time trying to get Tiktok famous (and somewhat succeeding).

Often, there’s a message in the group chat asking for opinions on if they should buy something. Lockdown seemed like a great time to save money but online shopping has quickly become our best friend.

When we’ve not been sunbathing, we’ve found ourselves scrolling mindlessly through Netflix, Disney+ and Sky Cinema. Courtney’s personal favourite has been Outerbanks on Netflix because of her love for Chase and Rudy, she never shuts up about it. Hollywood is another favourite. Whereas Anna’s personal favourite has been the Vampire Diaries and she watched the new season of Selling Sunset within a day, it was that good. We feel like lockdown has allowed us to relive our childhood because we’ve been at home working and we’ve been watching films from when we were younger. Plenty of coming of age films have been binged during the duration of lockdown.

Plenty of our plans have been cancelled, including our holiday to Ibiza. To keep our mood up, we’ve made replacement plans for next year and some of the events we were going to have been rescheduled so we always have that to look forward to. We can’t wait to move into our house for second year and be with our best friends and have our independence back.

Self care has been really important, especially as we haven’t been able to go to the hairdressers so we’ve been doing hair masks to try keep our hair in decent shape. Courtney paints her nails once a week to make herself feel more put together. Every once in a while we put make up on to make sure we don’t forget how to do it and just as a little treat to ourselves.

Hopefully, lockdown will come to an end soon so we can all get back to normal and not have to get drunk over FaceTime in our bedrooms. The plan is before second year to have a party or go out to give first year the send off it deserves and to celebrate moving into a new house.
