Since all of our holidays got cancelled and we got all of the money refunded back, we decided to book some weekends away. However, we couldn’t get the same time off work so we went with separate groups of friends instead, but we have got some future trips planned.

Our destination of choice was cities as they seemed easier to get to and gave us more to do. Next year we have some concerts planned which we will most likely turn into weekends away to make up for the lack of trips we have had this year. This time has allowed us to plan our summer time holidays for next year and our big holiday for after graduation.

I decided to go to Liverpool with one of my friends who I was supposed to be going Amsterdam with this year. We only spent a night there because it was hard trying to fit it around work, but we managed to make the most of it by going day drinking on the first day, out for food at night and then shopping on the second day. Since we were saving money on food due to the government scheme, we decided to go to some nicer cocktail bars on the roof top and at the docks and with student discount we were able to go to Junkyard golf as well.

Anna decided to go to London, with her group of friends from home who she was meant to go to Greece with. The last chunk of their refund came through the day before they left for the trip which gave them a good budget for spending money. With the money they got back, they decided to stay near Tower Bridge in London because they wanted a nice view of London and wanted to be fairly central. Their trip was two nights and three days as they had to fit it around working. The first day they went out for food and drinks and walked around Canary Wharf. Their second day was spent shopping on Oxford Street and Carnaby Street and in the evening they played Junkyard Golf and went out for cocktails.

Since moving back to Manchester, we’ve been using our free time to explore the city more and trying new places, things and restaurants. We’ve been taking full advantage of the government scheme by going to different cocktail bars and restaurants, which we’d usually find too expensive. Because clubs aren’t open, this has given us the chance to still get dressed up. It’s also given us the chance to wear all the clothes we bought over lockdown.

Life is half back to normal now, so hopefully we can keep exploring different places before university starts again in late September.
