Going back to work after lockdown

Since the start of lockdown, we have both been on furlough for two separate companies. However, the past two weeks we have had to get back to somewhat normality and go back to work. But a lot of things have changed.
At first being away from work we enjoyed having time to ourselves and being able to spend time at home, which is something we haven’t been able to do since we have got jobs. And something we never thought we would be able to do again for a long period of time since starting university. This also allowed us to focus on our university work and our exams. But as time went on and we had finished our first year we found ourselves with nothing to do to occupy our time, which was something that started to affect our mental health. After watching all the Netflix series and films known to us, we just couldn’t wait to get back to work and have some structure back in our days.
When we got the calls from our managers we were really relieved to find out that we could go back to work. At first like anyone going back to work we were nervous to see how much things had changed and how differently we would have to operate. But as soon as we got back and were with our colleagues and work friends again it felt normal and within minutes we were less on edge.
Both of us work in completely separate industries. I work in retail whereas, Anna works in hospitality. In my store we have had screen put up, queuing outside and the social distancing rule enforced constantly throughout the store, including making aisles one way. Anna’s store has been made drive thru only and a shelf to lift out so they don’t have to touch anyone. They are also not allowed to give anyone sugar, they can provide it to them but are unable to put it into their drinks like they used to.
Hopefully this is the start of everything getting back to normal, or the new normal.
