A Weekend Away

Since we didn’t manage any holidays together this year, and if you’ve read our previous posts you’ll know we were supposed to be going to Ibiza, which is looking unlikely for next year as well, we decided to book the same days off work and look for a city break nearby. Firstly, we looked at York because it was close and then we looked at Sheffield as we know quite a lot of people who go to university there and we finally settled on Leeds.

Leeds is fairly similar to Manchester, it’s got quite a lot of young people and plenty of bars and pubs and things to do. We decided to get the train to save the petrol and parking fees. Luckily, we’ve been on trains during COVID so it wasn’t anything we weren’t used to. In terms of wearing masks, now it”s second nature and didn’t bother us while we were on the trains.

It was a cheap and affordable trip, we only went for two days and one night.

When we got to Leeds, we went to the shops to buy some food as we didn’t have a table booked until quite late and we knew we’d be drinking before dinner and needed to line our stomachs. After checking in, our key card didn’t work at first so after the stress of this and trying to find the hotel without having to walk down dodgy streets, we decided to just chill in the hotel for a bit, have a cup of tea and eat some cookies. Just our luck, we had loud neighbours so the relaxing wasn’t easy.

It was nice to do our make up and dress up since we haven’t had a proper girls night since mid-August because of work, going home and other trips away. We put some music on while we got ready and spent some time taking some pictures and joking around.

A much needed girls trip

The first thing we had booked was Junkyard Golf because we said we’d go together since the beginning of first year of university and just hadn’t got round to it. We got cocktails while we were there and went round the course. Admittedly we’re no Tiger Woods and lost one of the balls as we were going round but it was a laugh and something we’d definitely recommend doing if there’s one in your city or if you’re stuck for something to do.

Cocktails at Junkyard

Afterwards, we went to Slug and Lettuce for drinks and food. Although it’s September, they were still doing Eat Out to Help Out which massively helped our bank accounts and we didn’t even realise, but we got 2 for 1 on our cocktails. Not wanting the night to end there, we went to a Wetherspoons because it’s cheap and we only wanted a couple drinks and time for an actual catch up.

Even though we live together, we don’t actually get a lot of time for a proper catch up as there’s normally other things going on in the house so it was well needed.

With university restarting next week and restrictions coming into place, this will probably be the last girls trip we can have for some time.
